If you’re part of a family account and your family organizer decides to upgrade to 1Password Teams or 1Password Business, you’ll need to join your organization’s new team or business account and migrate your data to it.
Important
Only store work-related items in your new team or business account. Store passwords and items that aren’t related to your work in an individual or family account. Learn more about privacy in your new team or business account.
Step 1: Join a team and move your work-related items
If you’re part of a family account and your family organizer decides to upgrade to 1Password Teams or 1Password Business, ask them to invite you to the new team or business account.
After you join the team:
- Add your new team or business account to the 1Password apps on all your devices.
- In the 1Password app on one device, move work-related items from your old family account to the Employee vault in your new work account.
If you have other vaults you want to move to your work account, create new vaults in the work account, then move your items. Your administrator may have already migrated the items in the Shared vault.
- Sign in to your new work account on 1Password.com to make sure all your work-related items are there.
Step 2: Create a new individual or family account for your personal items
If you have personal items in your old family account, you can sign up for a new individual or family account and move your personal items to it. These accounts are separate from your work account and none of the items in them are available to your employer.
Tip
If your organization moves to 1Password Business, you’ll get a free 1Password Families membership. Your free family account is managed and accessible only by you and the people you invite to it. If you leave the business account, you can unlink your family account and add a payment method to keep using it.
After you create a new individual or family account:
- Add your new individual or family account to the 1Password apps on all your devices.
- In the 1Password app on one device, move personal items from your old family account to the Private vault in your new individual or family account.
If you have other vaults you want to move to your new personal account, create new vaults in the account, then move your items.
- Sign in to your new individual or family account on 1Password.com to make sure all your personal items are there.
Step 3: Sign out of your old account
When you’ve finished moving your items to your new accounts, you can sign out of your old family account in the 1Password apps and let your family organizer know you’re done.
