Change a team member’s email address

Learn how to change a team member’s email address if you use Unlock with SSO or automated provisioning.

In some cases, a team member can change their email address from their profile page on 1Password.com.

If you integrate 1Password with your identity provider, you’ll need to follow different steps depending on which integrations you use.

If you use automated provisioning

If you use automated provisioning with SCIM, change the team member’s email address in your identity provider. When your identity provider syncs the change to 1Password, the team member will receive an email asking them to confirm their new email address. They’ll need to sign in with their old email address to confirm the change.

If you’re using Unlock with SSO alongside automated provisioning, follow these same steps, but the team member will need to use their new email address to sign in after the change.

If you’re changing the domain of the email address, you’ll need to update allowed domains for your account first.

If a team member isn’t provisioned with SCIM

If a team member isn’t provisioned from your identity provider and you need to change their email address, turn off provisioning and ask the user to change their email address on their profile page, then turn provisioning back on.

If you use Unlock with SSO

If you use Unlock with SSO, change the team member’s email address in your identity provider, then ask them to sign in to 1Password with their new email address. They’ll be asked to accept the email change, then receive an email with instructions to confirm their new address.

If a team member’s email address doesn’t match the identity provider

If you’re migrating to Unlock with SSO and an existing team member’s email address doesn’t match the one in your identity provider, they can change their email address on their profile page. After the team member confirms this change and the new email address in 1Password matches the one in the identity provider, they’ll be able to set up unlock 1Password with SSO.
